Whole Food Living

Since I am the primary cook and shopper for my family I decided to make a conscious decision to buy whole foods, organic and sustainable meats and produce. Support local farmers, avoid processed, packaged foods and in general shape my family into lean, mean eating machines.

Homemade Marinara

Spaghetti is one of my families staples and the "easy go-to" when my wife is in charge of the meals for a night. Instead of reaching into the pantry for that jar of Ragoo or Praygo, I wanted to give them something better.

So I made up a 3 gallon batch of homemade spaghetti sauce and today I will try my hand at canning it. I would probably prefer to freeze it, however I need to keep our modest garage freezer cleaned out for the beef that will arrive in a month or so.

I'll try and recall the recipe, but truthfully I didn't use one. Since local tomatoes are long out of season, I chose to use canned tomatoes. I did procure local garlic, carrots, celery, onion and basil from a family owned grocer.

Anyway, I'll try and remember to either shoot some video or take some pictures today when I get around to canning everything.
